Description:

All sri Lankan Fresh water crabs are exclusively endemic to the island. Among the 51 described species, within a single taxon of invertebrates , the highest proportion of threatened species recorded among the freshwater crabs. Desrtuction of pristine aquatic habitats, pollution of water mainly due to agrochemical and pesticide use are the major known threats to crabs of Sri Lanka.
