Orb Weaver
-37.9506, 145.258
Field Notes
Description:
Looking very much like a seed pod of a tea-tree (pic 1), this orb weaver was trying to stay undetected. It had a felty olive green rounded abdomen. The dorsal surface showed a pale green triangular pattern bordered by thin white scalloped pattern. A part of the cephalothorax is seen as a white hairy structure between the front pair of legs (pic 3).
Body length ( excl legs) could have been about 8 mm)
Habitat:
Spotted on a broom tea-tree.
Notes:
There were many spiders of different species amongst the profuse blossoms of the tea-tree shrubs - they were feasting on the many insects visiting the blooms. <br>
I am not able to identify the spider - ? Araneus sp. ? Eriophora sp.
