Field Notes

Description:

Pentatomidae; Pentatominae; Nezara viridula (Linnaeus, 1778). According to Wikipedia, the male of this species grows to a length of about 12.1 mm. and the female is slightly bigger, reaching 13.1 mm. These bugs are usually all green with a line of small white spots on the scutellum. The eyes can be black or red.

Habitat:

Spotted, on unidentified foliage, in the rice mill backyard.

Notes:

Wikipedia mentions that this bug is seen in several colour morphs. The all green one is called Nezara viridula f. smaragdula and there is a morph (form) which has white front margins on the head and thorax. It is called Nezara viridula f, torquata, I think that the copulating couple shown here is made up of a form smaragdula and a form torquata.
