Blue Eyed Girl provided the family name for shield-backed katydids, and I think she got it right. I'm suggesting "Microcentrum" is the genus. I also think this may be a "Microcentrum rhombifolium", but I'd like someone else to confirm. http://bugguide.net/node/view/339462 If you find other katydids, here's a site that has a good reference chart to help with genus identification. Not all animals that look like katydids fall under Tettigoniidae, so they can be hard to i.d. without help. http://entomology.ifas.ufl.edu/walker/buzz/katydids.htm
