Field Notes
Description:
A beautiful small babbler with a black head, bright silver ear (which made the name), orange underparts, and a bright red wing patch and tail base. Male has jet-black crown to lores. Bill orange-yellow and legs yellowish flesh.
Unfortunately a common target of the cage bird trade.
Habitat:
Occurs at > 600 m.
Bushes, undergrowth, open broadleaf evergreen, pine and mixed forests, forest edge, scrub, abandoned cultivation, tea plantations, bamboo, sometimes other grassland. Also natural openings in more extensive areas of intact forest.
Notes:
I had seen it in a roadside mixed forested area on my way to Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh, India.
