Field Notes

Description:

No distinctive smell or taste, growing under birch. It was up to 20cm tall and the stipe was huge possibly 8cm across! On cutting only the flesh of the cap changed colour to a pale vinaceus red, purple or pink, I think the change was almost instantaneous although might be remembering wrong. There seems to be white reticulation on the stipe towards the cap (2nd photo), the 4th photo shows a different pattern near the base. Any suggestions on the ID (and the ID of any of my other spottings!) very welcome! Thanks CorduneanuVlad for the ID!

Notes:

hc10, I have a sample. I have marked the location within a 10 mile radius, it's not exact

hey thanks CorduneanuVlad, after 3 or 4 years of being interested in mushrooms I still can't identify a Cep! The colour change threw me off!
This is a Cep (Boletus Edulis) and it seems that someting eat parts of it and some fungus started growing on it - possibly the Bolete eater (Hypomyces chrysospermus)
