Field Notes

Description:

A medium size butterfly that is not very common. The first pic shows the underside of the wings which is white with a green pattern. A perfect combination to help it camouflage. Pics 2 and 3 show the top of the wings which are white with black markings.

Habitat:

Spotted nectaring on wildflowers in a moist meadow in eastern Washington Cascade foothills. Found in western North America. The typical habitat is open meadows and valleys where it is sunny and available host and nectaring plants (especially the mustard family plants).
