Field Notes
Description:
Herbaceous perennial plant native to Asia, North America, and North South America. It is generally scarce, or rare in occurrence. Unlike most plants, it does not contain chlorophyll. It generates energy through parasitic means. It's roots sap off of other species roots. The stems reach heights of 10-30 cm. It flowers from early summer to early autumn.
Habitat:
This plant's usual hosts are certain fungi that are mycorrhizal with trees, meaning it gets its energy from photosynthetic trees. It does not depend on sunlight, so it can live in very dark forests deep in the understory of dense forests.
