Field Notes

Description:

The delightful Black-capped Chickadee. To 6 inches. Black cap and throat, white cheeks, gray back, dull white underparts. Wing feathers narrowly and indistinctly edged with white. My favorite bird. Very curious and will eat bird seed out of your hand. In the forest they will come out of nowhere to see what is going on. Stay for awhile and then all fly off together.

Habitat:

Deciduous and mixed forest, and open woodlots. Bird feeders in winter.
