Field Notes

Description:

Red eyes, Black plumage. Many calls. One is sweet. The other is a kik kik kik sound which is harsh. The male lures the crows away...actual hot pursuit is a common sight. The female sneakily lays her eggs in the crow's nest.

Habitat:

On fig tree growing wild. Urban residential area.

Notes:

Brood parasite. I have heard the chicks as they grew up in crow's foster nest. They sound like CROWS with a cold and are very very raucous. Crow chicks are very quiet. But the chicks of the two species happily shared the nest and fledged together.
