Timber seed bug
Dieuches maculicollis
-37.8996, 145.312
Field Notes
Description:
Approximately 10mm long; three segmented antennae; broad triangular head
Habitat:
Inside a large old dam eucalyptus log with well rotted timber. Co-habiting with darkling beetles, geoplanarians, scolopendra, opiliones, somestrange solitary ants!?, various spiders; wood lice, unknown xylorictine moth larvae etc.
Notes:
The log was turned over and partly broke open. There were many of these apparently coming out of the tubes created by larger grubs. I thought miridae would be confined to live plants.. apparently not. Can't find much info yet on sprophytic hemiptera etc. but interesting stuff on the transfer of sarophytic fungal spores by verious bugs.. ;-) <br> (testing maps)
