Brown Vine Snake
Oxybelis aeneus
9.20344, -82.2025
Field Notes
Description:
A fairly large snake by my standards (~4 feet). Brown vine snakes are common on Isla Colon. While they seem aggressive, they very rarely bite. Instead of biting, the open their jaws and pretend strike. But, these snakes have rear set fangs so the snake cannot easy bite. These snakes are incredibly strong and can support the weight of their body entirely using just the tip of their tails.
Habitat:
Open savanna like habitat, found on a fallen tree.
