Spotted at Inwood Hill Park New York, USA.

I haven't found out yet Jordi. Maybe they fight too much.. maybe as you say they release them as a defence.. maybe they just aren't very well connected in the first place. They look like they would make a popping noise when they come off. I guess they just grow another one next moult. Anyway so often they have seven or six or five.. haven't seen any with none yet though. LOL! http://www.amazingnature.us/spiders/harvestmen.html

Excellent. It's got the right number of legs too. So often they're one or too short.
