Field Notes

Description:

Large (55-65 cm in length) bird with a characteristic long, narrow, dented red bill ending in a small hook. Breeding male mainly white, with black and glossy back, wing covers and head. Female mainly light grey, with red-chestnut head and crest, and white belly and chest.

Habitat:

Here seen close to shores of lake Leman, Geneva; always in large numbers.
