Field Notes

Description:

Pale green in colour and from the back looks just like the hood of a snake with a long, protruding tongue!

Habitat:

I was walking down the road leading to the Neora Valley Jungle Camp, Village Kolakham. This is a forested area on the Himalayan foothills. This plant was growing right on the edge..one false step and I'd have gone hurtling down the hillside. Finally, I bent the spadix over (last shot) but the general profusion of other plants means my shots are cluttered.

Notes:

Later, I saw a larger specimen inside the camp . The stem was thicker and mottled and resembled a snake. The mimicry is excellent.
