Field Notes

Description:

This mayfly is just over 1" long.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica. There are two small streams near the photo location. Since this is the end of the rainy season the water flow is reduced and the food sources for the nymphs are ample. There are 6 - 8 months when the creeks have no water. This does not allow for many mayflies to be produced during a given year in this area.

Notes:

I have no experience with mayflies. Basic research has given me the following genus in Costa Rica (note that most are from 50 meter elevation (carribbean side) to over 1000m elevation) - Ableptemetes , Baetodes, Leptohyphes, Thraulodes, Tricorythodes
