Description:
Brown-Belted Bumble Bee has a head and face that are black. Thorax is coated in yellow hairs, with a circular patch of all black hairs between the base of the wings. Abdominal is yellow banded with black and black posterior and black legs. Worker bees may have a brown-yellow band around the abdomen.
Habitat:
Spotted on a Swamp Milkweed at Tamarac near the Visitor Center. They live in many different kinds of habitat including wetlands, meadows, agricultural fields, urban areas & cities. Their preferred flowers are milkweed, thistle, and sunflowers.
Notes:
Brown-Belted Bumble Bees are common pollinators in Minnesota.
