Description:
The lauaʻe plant is a type of fern. The size of a lauaʻe can grow up to three feet tall. This plant does not have any flowers or fruits. Instead, it has spores on the leaves. The plant can be a dark green or a medium green and they have a shine to it. The spores can be a light green or a dark brown. Along the side of the leaf, you will see curves. The tip of the leaf is rounded. It is not just one big leaf, but broken down into smaller leaves.The spine of the leaf is usually brown but sometimes can be a greenish color towards the top of the leaf.
Habitat:
Lauaʻe can be found in moist areas like rain forests but they can also be found on the beach. It can grow near trees and rocks and can also be found in Asia. This spotting was spotted on Paʻaoloulu Way, Kapolei.
Notes:
Some say lauaʻe is indigenous and others say lauaʻe is introduced. It can also be used in lei making and kupeʻe for hula.
