Field Notes

Description:

I found this rather odd-looking white insect on the Brunfelsia this morning. It has long pincers which it used to preen the white desiccated coconut-like mass on its back (as seen in video 0:25 onwards). Its rear can be seen on pictures 5 & 6. ID is appreciated.

Notes:

The Brunfelsia looks a bit unhealthy with ants and mealy bugs on various parts of the plant. White residues are seen as well.

Species ID Suggestions

Mealybug destroyer

Cryptolaemus montrouzieri

The ID should say "Cryptolaemus montrouzieri larva"
Strange looking bugs aren't they. The first time I saw one I thought it was dust floating around.
Not sure. I hope so - need all the bug control I could get right now. :-)
