Field Notes

Description:

It looked just like the dried pod of a large cardamom. I stopped to look because it was suspended in space (not really; the web was so fine so as to be almost invisible) The web was an orb. Is it just me or can you see a skull-like shape on the dorsal surface; like two eyes and a gaping mouth?

Habitat:

Just outside the boundary wall of a residential plot of land; sold but still no construction. Area is weed infested.I pass it everyday on my walk.

Notes:

I saw it once before but this one is a better photo.

Not just a smiley...I laughed out loud. We say, JIO. Meaning Long live. Jio PN!!!
I just searched googs images for 'orb weavers kolkata' and I saw one that looked very similar to this. Lo and behold it was on PN and even Loer and Beholder it was one of yours. Now for the smilie face... 😀
Thanks, Mark...the grinning skull thingy just dazzled me I guess; I looked it is there but not so prominent in my first spotting. Thank you, so much...how did you remember??? Or maybe it is more common down under? Wikipedia does say the common name is from Australia...
