Shaggy Inkcap

A number of mushrooms growing in deciduous woodland, The largest were maybe 20cm tall and deliquescing. One of the mushrooms had a red-orange exudate on the stem, clumsily I broke the suface tension of the blob of exudate (3rd photo). When I twisted the cap from the stem a long stringy fibre remained (not photographed), later on I found out this stringy fibre resides in the centre of the hollow stem and is a good indicator, along with the presence of a ring, that the mushroom belongs to the genus Coprinus: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/coprinus_comatus.html Similar species include The Common Inkcap (Coprinopsis atramentaria) and The Magpie Inkcap (Coprinopsis picacea).
