Field Notes

Description:

Cyclosa spiders sometimes construct web decorations from spider silk, but they are better known for their habit of building decorations from prey remains and other debris. It is thought that these spiders hide from predators in their accumulations of trash. If your reaction to my pictures is that it is difficult to see the spider, that is how it is supposed to be. This spider's life depends on its ability to conceal itself from Spider Wasps (Pompilidae).

Habitat:

This Cyclosa sp. was spotted on its web, on a clump of bamboo, in the rice mill backyard.
