It's too cold here in CO for them to stay all year...but they're one of the earliest migrators we see in the spring! At the rehab center where I volunteer, our resident turkey vulture has to come inside when it gets too cold, and he doesn't like it much!! But it's better that than freezing! He sits and shivers...only when we're watching!! Pathetic, really...but adorable! (He's an imprint) ;-)
Thanks Christy! We have had some overwintering turkey vultures but the population is definitely increasing with the warm weather. In Hinckley OH the return of the turkey vultures is considered a sign that spring is coming. I guess this is the Midwestern version of the swallows of San Juan Capistrano.
Nice shot! I can't believe you're seeing them already! Someone saw them in NY...here in Colorado they haven't arrived yet but hopefully soon! Great spotting!
