Description:
The Yellow Spotted Salamander is black all over with yellow spots. It is a mole salamander, it spends most of its life in tunnels underground. In the spring, on the first rainy night after a warming period, they come out of the ground and had to vernal pools to find a mate and lay eggs.
Habitat:
Mixed hardwood forests.
Notes:
We found this one during Baltimore Woods' Amphibian Alert. We also saw Wood Frogs, Spring Peepers, Redbacked Salamanders, and another salamander that was difficult to identify. We found many of the Yellow Spotted ones!
