Field Notes

Description:

It is approximately 83 cm long and weighing 2.7 kg. The male is black with white belly region and the female has black plumage streaked with white, black head and neck, chest and belly cinnamon beige.

Habitat:

Present south of the Amazon River in the region between Rio Tapajós and Maranhao, Brazil's central to the west of Sao Paulo, Parana and Minas Gerais. Also found in Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. The populations of the Amazon, belonging to subspecies Crax fasciolata pinima, are threatened with extinction, primarily as a result of hunting.
