Description:

Small purplish mushroom with a thick base. Cap about an inch across and stalk on largest mushrooms about an inch high. Growing in a dense clump along the side of the trail in a county park, near the coast. Spotted just after a week of rain.

Thanks Pouihi. There seemed to be a lot of variation in this species, after looking at many images on the web. I'm still not sure about it, but it looks like the most likely id.
