Description:

Asymetrical mushrooms, growing in a close clump. The margins of the caps have random folds. Largest cap is about 1.5 inches across and clump stands about an inch high.

Habitat:

Growing in leaf litter beside the trail in a eucalyptus grove by the beach.

Mary, that was my first thought, as well. Not one of your prettier mushrooms.
Now that is an interesting looking find. I have no id what they are called, but I know what the first photo looks like.. Nice find and photo series
