Description:

This was found inside a rotting log, which was laying in leaf litter.
It is approximately 1 to 1.2 cm in length.
White underside, pink on the sides and black on top.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually it looks very similar to a firefly larva http://www.flickr.com/photos/anitagould/6657089467/
This is an insect, since there are six legs. This is a larva (nymph) since it is still segmented and not yet with head, body, thorax pattern. I expect a beetle, their larvae are usually curl grubs but often very mobile as this one is. Some beetles in the firefly family mature as a wingless nymph.
