Field Notes

Description:

This bumblebee was busy flying from one plum tree full of blossom to another yesterday. It is one of the main bumblebee species in Europe. The worker bees have a white rump like their close relative the White-Tailed Bumblebee, but have much darker yellow bands around their bodies.

Habitat:

Their nest sites are usually underground, often an abandoned mouse burrow.
