Field Notes

Description:

A large bird (11 cms long) with an olive back, white belly, dark throat and blue patches on face.

Habitat:

This bird visits the paperbark tree in our backyard - suburban area near creek.

Notes:

An exciting experience seeing these in our backyard. A pair visit at times to feed on insects under the papery bark of the Melaleuca.
Photo quality is not good as it was difficult to get a clear shot against the bright sky and from a distance- my apologies.
This spotting is to document species, place and time only. I will replace the pics if I get better ones.
Although called honey eaters their diet is mostly invertebrates supplemented by nectar and fruits.
Family: Meliphagidae
