Field Notes

Description:

Pronghorn is not a true antelope, even if it lives in the same niche as an antelope. This is the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae.

Habitat:

Pronghorn is endemic to interior western and central North America. Pronghorns live primarily in grasslands but also in brushland and deserts.

Notes:

After cheetahs, pronghorns are the fastest animals on land, reaching speeds of almost 60 miles per hour.
