Description:

Small 1/4 inch jumping spider on the outside of the garage at night

Habitat:

Near woodlands in the Poconos, PA

Notes:

I don't know what that is near the spider. Maybe an empty exoskeleton of wasp. Taken pitch black with flash (sorry so grainy)

I love these guys! I would actually say immature male on the basis its dorsal spot is still orange. In a mature specimen it would be white!

Hi Carole, This little jumping spider cutie is a male, but don't know the species (I live in Seattle,WA) and the brown dried material on the left of the 4th photo does look like the exoskeleton of a katydid or other insect, but it's weird because it almost seems to have wings and big bulbous antennae which you would not see on the pupal or larval exoskeleton after the adult emerged. The jumping spider has enlarged pedipalps by the "head" region, which indicates it is a mature male. Interesting, I wonder if this species lives more than one year and when they typically mate.
