Field Notes

Description:

I believe this is the Painted Tiger Moth caterpillar. It's black with red bumps along the back and prolegs. There are long, yellow hairs in the front and back. The video shows it moving around but the red bumps aren't very visible.

Habitat:

Drying out after heavy rain on grass and rock in backyard. This is near where Painted Tiger Moth eggs hatched months ago.

Your spotting is great! I just added a quick video showing it move around but the red bumps don't show up well.
