Habitat:

Originally occuring in southern parts of Europe (e.g. Italy, Turkey, Hungary, Bulgaria) and introduced to many other parts as ornamental plant. It is one of the first flowering plants in spring, providing nectar and pollen for bees.

Notes:

E. hyemalis is said to be extremely poisonous, especially the bulbs.
