Field Notes

Description:

Also known as Burrowing Sea Cucumber and Sea Basket Sea Cucumber.

They feed on plankton, and grow to a length of about 30cm. When feeding they fan out their "arms" and then one by one roll them in into their mouths to feed.

Habitat:

Found singly buried in the sand of shallow waters on sand and rubble areas, at depths of 0 to 40m. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

They look like underwater shrubs, then they start moving their arms...!

(The video is of a different individual, but same species. It was spotted at the same dive site on 30 June 2012.)
