Field Notes

Description:

The African Elephant is the largest living terrestrial animal, with males reaching 6 to 7.5 metres in length, 3.3 metres in height at the shoulder, and weighing 6 t. Males usually lead a solitary life.

Habitat:

Sub Saharan Region. This one was spotted in the Ngorongro Crater

Notes:

The African Elephants are threatened. Although Tanzania has a large number of elephants, poaching is still a major concern due to the ivory trade. Because of this reason, the sale of the country's ivory stockpile was turned down.
