Field Notes

Description:

I was given these Tropical beans and have found them fascinating to watch. The first leaves protect the next 3 that come up by closing the two leaves for protection when it is too hot or too chilly. Next a two pronged flower comes up. It blooms and is pollinated. Looking carefully at slide 4 you can see the beginning of long thin beans coming out of the flower pods. Slide 5 is the mature beans growing side by side long and slender from the curved stem.

Habitat:

They need water so it is better to wait until the rainy season, but I have them in my Earth box and they are doing well. They are good eating and thrive in hot humid weather!

Notes:

I will try to find out the correct ID from the Master Gardener who gave them to my friend and who then gave them to me.
