Field Notes

Description:

These gorgeous little Kingfishers have a "turquoise back, turquoise blue rump and tail, buff-white underparts and a broad cream collar. There is a broad black eye stripe extending from bill to nape of neck. Both sexes are similar, although the female is generally lighter with duller upper parts." (Birdlife Australia)

Habitat:

This little bird was chilling out on the tree branch about 30m from the waters edge at Gordonbrook Dam, near Kingaroy. "Gordonbrook Dam is the sole water supply for Kingaroy[.....] The dam provides a haven for over 100 different species of birds." (https://www.queensland.com/en-au/attraction/gordonbrook-dam )

They must have had a whackin' great headache after hitting the glass door. Poor little things. I'm glad to hear they both survived :)
I love these birds. So gorgeous. The last two I saw I actually rescued. They flew into a glass door. Poor little ones were stunned, but both survived.
