Description:

A long-legged owl known for its unusual habit of dwelling in underground holes. Sometimes these are excavated by the owls but often they are re-purposed prairie dog or gopher tortoise burrows. Burrowing Owls feed on insects and live in colonies.

Habitat:

Open areas, grassy or agricultural, with a water source.
