Description:

It is a perennial, 5 to 20 cm height plant. It usually blooms in April. .

Habitat:

It is found in Europe, including Britain, from Scandanavia south to C. France, east to C. Asia and the Himalayas.The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. and can grow in very acid soils.
It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade.It requires moist or wet soil. Ideal places are: Woodland Garden Dappled Shade; Shady Edge; Ground Cover; Bog Garden.

Notes:

The leaves are edible and used in salads but are rather small, and there is a distinct bitterness in the flavour, especially during hot weather.
