Description:

The snakes Boas are medium to large, reaching up to 4m long. Is cylindrical, slightly compressed at the sides, showing its strong constrictor muscle.
They eat mostly birds and small and medium-sized mammals that kill by constriction. His pupil vertical characterizes them as nocturnal animals, although the practice shows that also have daytime activities. They can have up to 50 pups are born between November and February, already fully formed, and therefore a viviparous (oviparous or depending on the author).

There is much folklore surrounding the pythons. In some regions of Brazil, his head is cut and used as a paste, in order to "close the body," protecting the individual against a number of ailments and "evil eye". The famous "Breath of Boa" is popularly cause spots and skin sores, nothing more than a defense strategy, where the snake expels air from the lungs, producing a characteristic sound, this reaction is often accompanied by the "boat ".

In Brazil are considered two subspecies, Boa constrictor constrictor Forcart, 1960, large, yellowish color and somewhat aggressive, being distributed in the Amazon region and the Northeast, and Boa constrictor amarali Stull, 1932, smaller, darker (gray), more aggressive, spreading from the center to the south-west.
