Velvet Trametes

Trametes pubescens (Schum. ex Fr.) Pilát Bracket 1.5-5cm across, 2.5-8cm wide, 0.3-lcm thick, in circular clusters, often overlapping; white or grayish yellow when fresh, grayish or yellow when dry; downy to velvety to almost smooth, often radially lined toward the margin. Tubes 1-4mm deep. Pores 3-4 per mm, angular; white when fresh, drying yellowish or umber at times. Stem none or rudimentary. Flesh tough and watery, drying rigid, reviving; white. Spores cylindrical, smooth, 5-8 x2-2.5µ. Deposit white. Habitat in clusters on dead wood of deciduous trees. Found in Europe and widely distributed in North America. Season June-October. Not edible.
