Description:

From Old World Tropics. Small shrub with (in the commonly cultivated variegated forms) having the nearly opposite leaves dark red-purple on the underside, with the top sides variably variegated.

Habitat:

Planted as an ornamental In a small garden in the middle of a residential section in middle of the sprawling metropolis of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Notes:

Generic name comes from Latin "to make blind". The sap in the eye reportedly causes (temporary?) blindness.
