Description:
American holly is a broad-leaf evergreen with a beautiful shape, but with a variety of insect and disease problems. The tree offers clusters of red berries that persist throughout fall and winter. It will grow in sun or partial shade, but berry production is best in full sun. The leaves are small and circular shape but very pointy.
Habitat:
American holly grows in fertile wetlands and sandy coastal areas among red maples, sweetgum, slash pine, and southern red oak.
Notes:
I also found this tree in my courtyard on my school campus.
