Field Notes

Description:

I never seen a terrestrial orchid in this stage of bud... I'm guessing here that this would be Dactylorhiza maculata; but will have to retrace my steps and find the place and these orchids again early next week... For now, I found a couple of plants in this stage of growth; showing large basal leaves bearing large and numerous dark-violet spots and a bud.

Habitat:

Growing in a shade, on edges of meadow (pic n° 4) closing on mixed forest; on slopes of one of hills at feet of Jura mountain range.

Notes:

The last pic shows the meadow in the middle of that forest, and yes, those ears in the middle are ears of a Roe deer I unwittingly flashed out... actually; I was only discovering that path, and stumbled upon that meadow... and that poor roe deer.
