Actually, bugguide ID'd it for me so I will give them the credit in the notes! It was the perfect model & held a series of poses long enough for me to 'click' him!
Glad you were able to find the ID, that one was driving me nuts! I could tell it was a click beetle, but I didn't know of any of the "hairy" ones that light in color. I wonder if it's a teneral adult, and had just emerged recently from its pupa? That would explain the difference in coloration between your photos and the one on bugguide.net.
