Field Notes

Description:

This snail, which I believe might be one of the notorious giant African snails, was spotted across the road from a beach in the outskirts of Nouméa, the capital of New Caledonia. Its length was probably just under 10 cm, which is relatively small compared to the 20 cm this species can grow to. It is considered an agricultural pest and has the ability to transmit human and plant pathogens.

I may be incorrect with my identification so please correct me if I am wrong.
