Field Notes

Description:

Large, long-legged wader; long, slightly upturned bill is pinkish at base. In all plumages shows black tail, white rump and white wingbars in flight. In winter, upperparts uniformly grey-brown and underparts pale; juvenile simliar but with buffish wash. Summer adult has reddish wash.

Habitat:

Widespread in winter on estuaries.
