Field Notes

Description:

video of (miniature) Jurassic Park in the city..two green anoles fight over territory...

Notice the dark patches next to the ears, and the raised neck - though they appear vicious (and are to one another) - their bites are harmless to humans.

Habitat:

Fence lines, bushes, underbrush...just about anywhere here in Florida. The anoles are our most commonly found lizards. They eat all sorts of flies and bugs and I even captured one eating a caterpillar (which I didn't know they did). Normally a docile lizard, but you wouldn't know it from this video.

Notes:

I noticed this green anole in fighting stance, so I hung around trying to see what he was agitated about- when all of a sudden the second lizard appeared and the fight was on!

I am sure I received many stares, as I focused my camera amongst the bushes - as this was close to the capitol building here in Tallahassee where both the streets and sidewalks stay busy.

Interesting information alice - and thank you :)
Anoles are commonly found, but not necessarily green ones. They are being chased out by the Mexican Brown anole Quite a video!
Thank S. Frazier :) I just love spring and the many wonders it brings.
Thank you Gerardo and Argybee. I was excited to have captured this with video.
Excellent Mary. What a laugh. Funny when one had the other head totally in it's mouth it had difficulty breathing. And that truck at the end sounded like one of them was growling. Ha!
