Green Anole (fight video)
Anolis carolinensis
30.4381, -84.2809
Field Notes
Description:
video of (miniature) Jurassic Park in the city..two green anoles fight over territory...
Notice the dark patches next to the ears, and the raised neck - though they appear vicious (and are to one another) - their bites are harmless to humans.
Habitat:
Fence lines, bushes, underbrush...just about anywhere here in Florida. The anoles are our most commonly found lizards. They eat all sorts of flies and bugs and I even captured one eating a caterpillar (which I didn't know they did). Normally a docile lizard, but you wouldn't know it from this video.
Notes:
I noticed this green anole in fighting stance, so I hung around trying to see what he was agitated about- when all of a sudden the second lizard appeared and the fight was on!
I am sure I received many stares, as I focused my camera amongst the bushes - as this was close to the capitol building here in Tallahassee where both the streets and sidewalks stay busy.
