Field Notes

Description:

Pic 1 shows a young female eriococcid gall with four narrow blade-like horns. The small red conical shapes seen on two of the horns in pic 2 are emerging male galls.

Habitat:

Spotted on a eucalyptus tree in a national park.

Notes:

An interesting fact: Male galls of A.munita are only ever found on female galls, according to experts. <br>

These galls are induced by female and male scale insects of the Eriococcid family.
